Causes of Convenience The M.I. A. Leader

Causes of Convenience  & The M.I. A. Leader

brandon-johnson
Brandon Johnson, Darrius Simmons and other cases “Leaders” seem to forget.
Funny when we needed support for the Derek Williams family it was not hard to find. Press releases, marches, weekly protests, tweets and FaceBook pages were found everywhere. Now the Brandon Johnson family is awaiting justice but little community activism has been done on their behalf.
So I ask you family where are those same “leaders” and groups that claimed to fight every injustice in this city and march and protest until this city complied with the people’s rights? Well that didn’t last long did it?
Brandon Johnson was the young man at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex who died in their care. Supposedly he died of complications of a broken neck he sustained in an injury. However he complained for some time and gave ample warnings. A simple blood thinner and he would be here today. His trial has been ongoing with no public outcry, no leader standing by with the family to give updates, no nothing. Why is this? Is he not worthy of the same love and support? Certainly this case has the same stink of foul injustice as in the Derek Williams case. Where are our leaders and was all that just talk? One must wonder!

Asking around the community many reasons about “why” were shared with me. “There ain’t no money to be made!” “They can’t get no fame, they don’t care!” and “It’s over they heads!” Whatever the reasons may be, the community activists and groups that we have come to depend on were next to silent on this case and have been missing in action on a few other cases. Again Why? Does Brandon Johnson not deserve the same amount of fury that this community poured out for Derek Williams? Do we not owe it to ourselves to see that the Milwaukee County Health Complex is a safe place for all of us? After all it is widely used by this community for a variety of reasons and one never knows in what crisis we will find ourselves in the care of this facility.
Our Milwaukee County Board who usually has something to say about these matters was brief in this case, a county case. Supervisor Bowen did release one statement that I know of regarding this matter and it was quite brief. I know of no follow up and I am sure he will correct me if I missed something.

County Supervisor’s Press Release:
“First and foremost, my heart goes out to the family of Brandon Johnson. Mere words cannot express the magnitude of the pain the family is assuredly feeling right now.
“I want Brandon’s family and all of Milwaukee County to know that I pledge to do my part to ask the right questions and to seek information in this case.
“Additionally, I will do everything I can as an official elected by the people of Milwaukee County to ensure that all residents of all Milwaukee County facilities are treated with dignity and respect and are granted the medical care and attention they deserve.”

So family I guess I still have hope that one day we will find leadership that will be consistent and will understand you cannot pick up the sword and carry it sometimes. High profile or low, they all matter. We all matter. If you take the name of leader, king, organizer, etc. You have put yourself in the seat of that which is called to a different journey and that means you are called to take on injustices, not just the easy to organize ones, but the ones that require work and sacrifice. This family needed you and you dropped the ball. Our elected, if you pick one case, then you must remain consistent as well; otherwise you too look like you are rolling with the tides. Let us unite behind every injustice that affects our community or do not sign yourself up for that position if you are not ready for the responsibilities that come with it.

TMD Heard: Political Musical Chairs in Milwaukee

TMD is checking with another source before releasing details (and names) of what will surely be the biggest political news of the year. If what we heard is true, look for major shakeups in Milwaukee politics. Look for some to possibly take  appointments and then the musical chairs will begin. That’s all that we can say at this time until we can confirm the information we received.

Breaking News: Milwaukee County Campaigns Get Nasty!

Breaking News: Milwaukee County Campaigns Get Nasty!

Jose Perez Campaign Uses the “N” word!

Felix Questell of the Jose Perez campaign team uses the “N” word to go toe to toe with constituents.

Taken from our friend Robert Miranda:

Mr. Perez says that “his campaign supporters are being “goaded” into saying things they should not be saying, is truly a statement beyond words. Really the “N” word had to be used? Give me a break!

Mr. Perez is running against Jim Witokowiak, I don’t think I need to say more. You know what to do!

In other plotting we find Peggy Romo West and Marina Dimitrijevic discussing how to control media and the Hispanic vote.

From Latinos United for Political Action (LUPA) released the following communications:

“Re: Fw: question
Peggy West to: Marina Dimitrijevic 05/05/2011 11:07 AM Cc: “Harold Mester”

Wow, he is really not letting this go…Harold, what do you think? Should we continue to engage him or do you have any other strategies to get us over this whole conversation?

Peggy A. West
Milwaukee County Board, 2nd Vice Chairwoman Milwaukee County Supervisor, District 12

Also from Ms. West:

This is an email from Peggy West to Harold Mester, Public Information Manager Milwaukee County, when we were trying to get more representation for our community on the county board. This is what

Peggy West wrote.

“Hey Harold,

I know we are giving this guy way too much time but his comments suggest that Latino’s need …”more representation”? Having a 2nd Hispanic majority district does not ensure a Latino will be elected . Marina has never had a Latino opponent and she has the “Hispanic Influence District” at the same time with Supervisor Lipscomb’s district being majority AA, Alderman Roberto Puentes’ district also being majority AA, and finally my friend Alderman Julio Maldonado of GREENFIELD, they all were able to win their seats? Furthermore, the State Assembly has never made this area a “Hispanic Majority” yet the last two people to hold that seat (one for 10 years) are both Hispanic…and just to drive the point home both the “Hispanic Majority” and “Hispanic Influence” districts are both represented on the Common Council by Anglos who have both run and won against Latinos…so does it seem like it matters?

I am afraid I don’t understand his point and would kind of like him to clarify.”

Finally in District 18 Alexander and Corder

The race took a turn for the worst when allegedly Corder canvassers where seen removing Alexander literature and possibly signs. Corder denies these allegations and the Milwaukee Police Department and Election Commission are now reviewing evidence and reports of the offenses. When questioning these allegations I was met with campaign workers who are working on this campaign. Needless to say it was nothing they wanted to hear. However these things need to be reported and I will point out that until further investigations, the acts are alleged despite reports to me and others of what was going down. On top of the alleged acts, soon thereafter a very left wing writer, pens a silly series of accusations about Ms. Alexander and even ties her to Walker and the Koch brothers, despite Ms. Alexander saying she did not vote for Walker and is a County employee (hint, hint) while Ms. Corder is listed as “unemployed” in open financial records. Seems like someone is on the payroll over on that left wing blogging site. Certainly truth is not a part of their mission.

Some people are desperate to get into office and are doing anything by any means to get into the county board.

Family I won’t tell you how to vote, other than the stories I submitted last week that did have endorsements by me and I stand by them. Feel free to read them at your leisure.

However all I want you to know is the truth, I want you to educate yourself. Bloggers are not always the voice of the people. I wish I could say we all stand for truth, justice and the American way, but human fallacies take hold sometimes, especially when the Walker issue is heavy on everyone’s minds. It seems to corrupt all politics even at the county level where this is supposed to be a nonpartisan branch of government. Take time to read the websites, read the literature, use the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access / CCAP and vet your candidates as you would a date or babysitter. Yes get educated because some of these people running DO NOT have OUR best interest at heart. The rest is up to you!

A StreetCar Named “Debt”

“Billionaire Barrett” set to spend Obama out of Office! $$$$ 95 Million and Counting $$$$

First off we had “Diamond Jim Doyle,” now we have “Billionaire Barrett” who feels Obama does not have enough on his plate and wants to spend Milwaukee and the Federal coiffeurs into the poor house! Once again turning his back to the poor and inner city community he keeps claiming to care about so much and wants to help. Remember the speech Mayor Tom Barrett gave when he lost his bid to Walker for governor? I DO! He promised to refocus on Milwaukee and US, but still here we are with unemployment in the city at its highest. We even top the nation in Black unemployment rates, but we got $$ 60 Million locally for streetcars? You’ve got to be kidding me!

Milwaukee is soon to add a new streetcar to the streets of Milwaukee, hoping for federal funding (which by the way is still you and me footing the bill), the city is hoping you won’t notice that this $95 million streetcar will cause more debt and no jobs or any  travel to jobs for our community. It won’t even bring people to our part of the city to shop or support our businesses! So why should we pay for something that really is designed for white folks entertainment?

First off, as someone mentioned the #30 bus route more than covers most of the proposed route! So why again do we need a streetcar? Will it create an abundance of jobs for Black Milwaukee? NOPE!! However many think they can steam roll this right into existence and so far they are right.

The city would use $54.9 million in federal transit aid, matched by $9.7 million in tax-incremental financing, to build a 2-mile streetcar line from the lower east side to the downtown Amtrak-Greyhound station. Streetcars would run every 10 minutes weekdays and every 15 minutes in the early-morning rush hour with late-night and weekend service, starting in 2013 possibly.

Consultants hired by our friends at the utility companies submitted reports that are completely absurd with their figures. They will have to rip up several streets to remove gas, electric, steam, phone, cable, and other utilities. WE Energies assessed this cost for just their portion as an estimated cost of $45 MILLION DOLLARS!!! AT & T estimated it would cost in the TEN OF THOUSANDS OF MILLIONS to tear up JUST BROADWAY STREET ALONE!!

Some supporters of this project think tax payers should pick up this “utility” expense while we keep TRYING TO SEEK federal support. Mind you again federal support is still YOU AND ME PICKING UP THE TAB!!! Also might I mention Obama is catching hell without adding millions more to a Milwaukee streetcar project? He is busy cutting pork and bloated spending projects why are we asking for more when we should be scaling back?

With no jobs and no Black interests at stake, I am going to have to get in my invisible leer and do some real JustUS league lifesaving. Come on Milwaukee, do we need this right now? Black Milwaukee, can we afford to keep signing onto projects and not get anything in return? For all we have agreed to and supported all we got is a handshake and light bulb. (Those who got them know what I mean).

How about we get Bronzeville fixed up and then we get a train to come and choo choo its way past us first then we can worry about the have’s versus the have-not’s!! ENOUGH, our time for some attention from this mayor and this Common Council is past due and WE NEED HELP NOW!! Not a damn train!!!

As someone commented to me, why not run a bus route in the same exact area and if it does well, meaning staying in the black, not costing us any additional spending, we can move to this silliness.

Even our own local  “Bruce Wayne,” Chris Abele knows this is some foul mess. Abele said he supported new transit options only if they could be run “sustainably, responsibly and efficiently.”

Abele added that “our proximate focus has to be on the transit system,” which is facing a cut of nearly $7 million a year in state aid. We depend on busses in the inner city and the loss of those services would cripple the Black community. These new streetcars do not get our people to or from any type of job.

Former County Exec Walker once said streetcars would take riders and funding from buses. Reports from other cities like Portland say crime and vandalism also follow streetcars. Some also said it helped bring in business as well.

With this route not traveling past one Black business, or person, what is our stake in it? Seems to me if the East side wants it, let the East side pay for it, we need JOBS and EMPLOYMENT. This choo choo train will not bring anything to us AT ALL except more debt!

Peace Family,
