Sen. Taylor Talks Tough to a Pro Worker’s Rights Audience, Gives Tough Talk On Vouchers Schools

We know Sen. Taylor can hold court with a microphone. This video has some VERY INTERESTING one liners such as;

  • “But I refuse, to pretend, that it’s okay for people (teachers) to sit in the classroom and don’t do their due dilligence to teach children who look like me!”
  • “I don’t care who (teacher’s union) give me money!” – Of course not, she’s gets it from pro-Choice School Organizations
  • “Give it to me when I’m your (teacher’s union) friend!”
  • “Now, our charters schools, voucher schools, I’m so disturbed! With voucher schools we had people that didn’t even have a high school diploma teaching. People who were sex offenders as principals. This is not acceptable.” – REALLY SEN. TAYLOR??? So, now the minimum standard is that they have at least a GED to teach.

Sen. Lena Taylor Press Release: Special Session on Deficit Spending Continues, No Jobs Yet

Taylor says “GOP are acting like a drunken college kid with their parent’s credit card”

(MADISON) Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) blasted Republicans on actions taken by the Joint Finance Committee today. Without making budget cuts, the GOP and Governor Walker continued the deficit spending that has dominated the first 20 days of Republican rule. Special Session Bill 7 creates tax deductions for corporations but does not include any oversight to ensure that jobs are being created and adds to the structural deficit.

“The GOP are acting like a drunken college kid who has their parents credit card. And within a few weeks, that credit card is maxed out. But someone’s got to pay that bill. We, as a Legislature, need to act in a fiscally responsible way to make sure we’re not spending ourselves into a fiscal abyss.”

The bill adds an estimated $33.5 million annually to the structural deficit, bringing the grand total for all the special session bills to $142 million in deficit spending. Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee continue to disregard their mandate to pay as you go for their ineffective and untested legislation.

“I can’t spend money I don’t have, so why do Governor Walker and the Republicans feel as though they can continue to spend this state further into debt without any accountability or oversight,” Taylor stated. “This is more smoke and mirrors by the Republicans. Wisconsin doesn’t need that; we need jobs and accountability.”

Taylor noted that it appears as though the Republicans want to ram through these special session bills before Governor Walker gives his State of the State address.

Taylor concluded that we need to stop using the structural deficit like a limitless credit card and stated, “Total Jobs Created in the Special Session on Jobs: Zero Deficit Spending in 20 Days: $142 Million Governor Walker violating the #1 Rule of his Brownbag Movement: Priceless.”

TAYLOR NAMED NATIONAL LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR

September 20, 2010

National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Recognizes Taylor, First Wisconsin Legislator to be Recognized

(SAN DIEGO, CA)  Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) was named the Legislator of the Year by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) at the association’s annual convention in San Diego, California this morning.  Taylor is the first ever recipient of the award from Wisconsin and chairs the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, Insurance, Campaign Finance Reform, and Housing.  Taylor received the award with recognition for her advocacy for the economic development spurred by the insurance industry is Wisconsin and the values of policyholder ownership of mutual insurance companies.

“In Wisconsin, the insurance industry imports 20 billion dollars of revenue to the state and employs over 17,000 people in quality jobs,” Taylor commented on receiving the award.  “Mutual insurers, who are owned by and benefit their policyholder members, have a long tradition of investment and job growth in Wisconsin.  I am humbled to have received a national honor for the time I spent this session working alongside this important Wisconsin industry.”

On receiving the award, Taylor was praised for her advocacy with the federal delegation to maintain state regulation of insurance, which is important to protecting the viability of small and regional town mutual companies and other mutual insurers.  Successfully, the Congress and President adopted the Title V provisions in the Dodd-Frank Act that limited the powers of the Federal Insurance Office.

“Working together, just like the members of a mutual company do, my colleagues and I were helpful advocates for this important industry,” Taylor noted.  “Wisconsin has a long history of mutual and cooperative creations by citizens.  It is common sense that Wisconsin take action to preserve and defend the rights of our citizens to pool resources for the greater good – including the coverage of risk.”

The first mutual insurance company was founded in American by Benjamin Franklin in March of 1752.  The Philadelphia Contributorship was formed to provide coverage from fire loss in the early city.  Franklin’s company continues to operate to this day. Taylor’s award from NAMIC is a statute of the industry icon, Benjamin Franklin.

In Wisconsin, there are over 250 insurance companies domiciled in Wisconsin that serve all lines of insurance.  Of that number over 100 are mutual insurance companies, with 65 being town mutuals across the state. Taylor thanked the Wisconsin companies for their diligence and commitment to the state, noting the success of general and niche companies to domicile and grow in Wisconsin.

(video) Sen. Taylor On Senate Floor… Funny Clip

Sometimes you just have bad days… Sen. Taylor is no exception. How about her so-called colleague – Sen. Tim Carpenter (D. Milw. 4th District) – calling Taylor out for not doing her homework before opening her mouth in the state legislature. Damn Lena, you let that dude punk you like that and say you aren’t ready for prime time???
