BAIT & SWITCH

Dollar Tree does a Rope-A-Dope or Milwaukee Black Community comes through with the right hook….

While we wait on a few key statements from the mayor and others there are important meetings and notices you need to be aware of. We at the Drum want to give you this information post haste.

6th District Meeting

HOWEVER:

First off if Dollar Tree moves forth it is in large part because Black Milwaukee did not seize its “AH HA” moment. The power is now in the hands of Black Milwaukee and Black Milwaukee alone.

SIGN THE PETITION, CALL THE MAYOR/GOVERNOR & DOLLAR TREE (Does it really take that much time? For something that will impact us for generations to come). Hell there is an online petition how hard can it be to make your power felt? You don’t even have to move out your house.

After talking with Common Council President Willie Hines (and we will quote him more at a later date), we feel very confident Alderman Hines is respectfully allowing Alderwoman Coggs to lead the council and respect her authority in the matter. “We are listening to the people!” said Hines and I do believe him.

However we have yet to hear from the mayor despite repeated attempts to communicate with him and the governor. He got till tomorrow before “in person” visits start. We ain’t the Journal. I ain’t got no journalistic rules or codes and he owes us!!

Contact Mayor Barrett:

Office of the Mayor

200 E. Wells Street/City Hall Rm.201

Milwaukee, WI 53202     Phone: (414) 286-2200

FAX: (414) 286-3191/Email: mayor@milwaukee.gov

Calm yourselves, peep game…Yes the shelves are filling up but that might be tactic and strategy. So do not let that stop you from signing petitions, going to meetings, calling the mayor and using your power.

Dollar Tree Ownership wants you to feel defeated. This is the led astray, bamboozled, etc… strategy and some are falling for it. Don’t be fooled people. BUT DO NOTICE WHO IS NOT HERE TO HELP OUR CAUSE!! Representatives and organizations who claim to have our back around election time. You need to remember their absence in this! This is an important moment in our time because every group and community has an economic power base in our city EXCEPT BLACK MILWAUKEE!! WHY? YOU KNOW WHY!! It was taken away by Mayor Hoan and kept away by Mayor Barrett if he refuses to help us now!!!!

Dollar Tree Petition

Worth sharing…

Some of the online petition comments have been outstanding so I want to share them:

“Cheap foods, high medical costs” (I hope Republicans are taking note)

“Dollar Tree has been accused of treating workers very poorly”

“Dollar Tree goes against everything family/community is”

“Fresh foods…eat to live”

Causes of Convenience The M.I. A. Leader

Causes of Convenience  & The M.I. A. Leader

brandon-johnson
Brandon Johnson, Darrius Simmons and other cases “Leaders” seem to forget.
Funny when we needed support for the Derek Williams family it was not hard to find. Press releases, marches, weekly protests, tweets and FaceBook pages were found everywhere. Now the Brandon Johnson family is awaiting justice but little community activism has been done on their behalf.
So I ask you family where are those same “leaders” and groups that claimed to fight every injustice in this city and march and protest until this city complied with the people’s rights? Well that didn’t last long did it?
Brandon Johnson was the young man at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex who died in their care. Supposedly he died of complications of a broken neck he sustained in an injury. However he complained for some time and gave ample warnings. A simple blood thinner and he would be here today. His trial has been ongoing with no public outcry, no leader standing by with the family to give updates, no nothing. Why is this? Is he not worthy of the same love and support? Certainly this case has the same stink of foul injustice as in the Derek Williams case. Where are our leaders and was all that just talk? One must wonder!

Asking around the community many reasons about “why” were shared with me. “There ain’t no money to be made!” “They can’t get no fame, they don’t care!” and “It’s over they heads!” Whatever the reasons may be, the community activists and groups that we have come to depend on were next to silent on this case and have been missing in action on a few other cases. Again Why? Does Brandon Johnson not deserve the same amount of fury that this community poured out for Derek Williams? Do we not owe it to ourselves to see that the Milwaukee County Health Complex is a safe place for all of us? After all it is widely used by this community for a variety of reasons and one never knows in what crisis we will find ourselves in the care of this facility.
Our Milwaukee County Board who usually has something to say about these matters was brief in this case, a county case. Supervisor Bowen did release one statement that I know of regarding this matter and it was quite brief. I know of no follow up and I am sure he will correct me if I missed something.

http://county.milwaukee.gov/ImageLibrary/Groups/cntySupervisors/d10/bowen/Press_Releases/2012-2016/10-11-12BowenJohnsonStatement.pdf

County Supervisor’s Press Release:
“First and foremost, my heart goes out to the family of Brandon Johnson. Mere words cannot express the magnitude of the pain the family is assuredly feeling right now.
“I want Brandon’s family and all of Milwaukee County to know that I pledge to do my part to ask the right questions and to seek information in this case.
“Additionally, I will do everything I can as an official elected by the people of Milwaukee County to ensure that all residents of all Milwaukee County facilities are treated with dignity and respect and are granted the medical care and attention they deserve.”

So family I guess I still have hope that one day we will find leadership that will be consistent and will understand you cannot pick up the sword and carry it sometimes. High profile or low, they all matter. We all matter. If you take the name of leader, king, organizer, etc. You have put yourself in the seat of that which is called to a different journey and that means you are called to take on injustices, not just the easy to organize ones, but the ones that require work and sacrifice. This family needed you and you dropped the ball. Our elected, if you pick one case, then you must remain consistent as well; otherwise you too look like you are rolling with the tides. Let us unite behind every injustice that affects our community or do not sign yourself up for that position if you are not ready for the responsibilities that come with it.

Peace Family,

Where are We At Black Milwaukee 40/40?

.facebook_66740

I thought this was a great picture to share….with all the changes to radio, tv and life in Milwaukee in general. Where do we see ourselves as Black Milwaukee? Are we working closer to getting our 40 acres or more to the 40 ounces?
For some I can see why this past week seemed like it was a 40 ounces kind of week but is there any good news to be found in our community? Maybe we need to hear it!
40 Acres News!
Although WMCS is gone for now, word is that there are several entities looking to reclaim it as a Black force again. This would be a solely Black radio station.
Listening to WNOV I heard many come over and give it a shot. WNOV is a Black owned station and needs our support. It seems like it has it and with the appearance of Eric Von on Friday passing on the mic to Sherwin’s Hughes so to speak, it seemed that there was a true passing of generation love and blessings for a truly successful venture.

We still got Eugene Kane on OnMilwaukee!!
Also thousands came out to the MPS job fair. Many committed to educating kids not to benefits and all the stuff people think people want when coming to MPS. These people were looking forward to educating kids. I am excited from their excitement!

Democratic Party Rep Goes Overboard Invokes Painful Black Memories

gz

Dahmer Really?
Friday night I was contacted by tearful people who have been hurt so much I do not know where they get their strength at this point.
Imagine being a parent of a murdered child. Now imagine that child is murdered by a notorious killer who did unspeakable things to your baby. The killer lives on infamously in various ways and you are reminded often of that horrid event, left to tell the story of your child that they were not some random person, they didn’t “ask for it.” Just some background…
Enter Graeme Zielenski who so carelessly used the Dahmer reference to once again remind these people how little their suffering means to him and the party he represents. This week families of the victims are drafting a letter to the Democratic Party calling for a formal apology. They also seek a reprimand but as of this writing they already have that to some degree. I will let them announce who they are and will leave them out of this story as it is political and as promised they will not be used in any political leaning story. I will share their story once it is completed.

victims
We now see the true face of the Wisconsin Democratic Party unravel as its front man Graeme Zielenski compares Governor Walker to Jeffery Dahmer. And to what the comparison was, he never really fleshed one out. It was a wound he inflicted for no reason other than he could. It makes one wonder why he would say such a thing and who would allow him to act this way for so long that it became typical and acceptable behavior?

http://m.jsonline.com/blogs/news/194349641.html
I must lie this squarely at the Party of the Wisconsin Democrats because this man has been long off track for some time and nothing has been done. It is not enough to say the leading communicator of your party is not liked and a bit unwell. It simply is inexcusable. I try to compare his actions to that of Walker’s PR person Cullen Werwie. Werwie would have been fired as soon as he hit the send button. However I have yet to hear from Democrats calling for any apology or reprimand of their Communication person.
Readers of the Milwaukee Drum know we have worked with some of the families in the past. We remember and honor their loved ones and we have investigated the cities broken promises to create some type of memorial that remembers their loved ones not the monster that took them. (Memorial being a fund/scholarship, a playground at the site, not a morbid reminder of the whole incident). Along comes Mr. Zielinski who so carelessly and recklessly invoked the name of the white man who not only killed innocent black men but again placed this city and our police department at odds with each other. That case had racial overtones much like the ones being dealt with now, not such good timing- i. e. Derek Williams.

For the families we will keep vigilant about their pain and as they are constantly hurt, we will constantly be there to help them as best we can. It is all about community. We supported them then, we support them now.
